During an appearance on The One Show, viewers were led to believe that Hollywood actor Russell Crowe was Johnny Vegas.
The Gladiator actor, 60, talked about his upcoming tour with act Indoor Garden Party, which includes dates in Italy and an intimate performance at Glastonbury Festival.
However, Russell’s new look, which they compared to beloved British comedian Johnny, 53, distracted viewers of the show, which also featured Jimmy Carr as a guest.
On X, @cumston_gary wrote: ‘#theoneshow. Russel Crowe, or Johnny Vegas?
Echoing their sentiment, @dumptyhumpty18 remarked: ‘Vegas has turned up instead #TheOneShow.’
@VeeeJon99 added: ‘Love Jimmy Carr. Love Johnny Vegas. Top guests on tonight’s #TheOneShow.’
Others, including @bshep58, also said that Russell bore a likeness to fellow acting icon John Goodman.
Russell and Johnny are friends, with the Les Miserables actor referring to the comic as a ‘old mate’ in a social media video where he promised to help the vulnerable during the coronavirus pandemic.
Johnny later followed through on their promise, delivering food supplies to people in need in St Helens, Merseyside, in 2020.

Russell responded by tweeting the message from Johnny earlier on Tuesday, joking that people should ‘expect to lose every second or third biscuit’ from their deliveries.
Given their friendship, Johnny should take the comparison positively, as he previously chastised Jeremy Clarkson for comparing his TV show to his.
The TV show Carry on Glamping follows Johnny’s attempt to establish a profitable business in the luxury camping market. Despite being the subject of a TV show, he maintains that his venture is genuine, unlike Clarkson’s Farm.
‘This isn’t just for a TV show; this is 100 percent an actual business,’ he insisted.
‘It really [annoys] me off when people say, “Ooh, it’s like Clarkson’s Farm”, because his show is a set-up, and you can see that from a mile off,’ Johnny said while speaking to Radio Times magazine.
‘That [comparison] really insults me – my team and I were doing 17-hour days to get the place ready, because it’s a real campsite with real customers, and we couldn’t let them down.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
