Some This Morning viewers believed they’d seen Holly Willoughby‘s speech addressing Phillip Schofield before, pointing out parallels to Jennifer Aniston‘s character Alex Levy on The Morning Show.
Life is sometimes stranger than fiction, but other times it simply reflects it!
Holly, 42, returned to This Morning yesterday after a two-week hiatus and addressed Schofield’s departure from the show.
Her final appearance on the show was May 18. After accusations that he and Willoughby were ‘barely speaking’ behind the scenes and that their relationship had cooled, Schofield, 61, announced his departure from the daily show after more than 20 years.
Days later, he resigned from all of his ITV projects after confessing a ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a young male showrunner on the ITV programme while still married to Stephanie Lowe.
During the first season of The Morning Show, the spotlight was on Mitch Kessler’s #MeToo incident and how his co-anchor Alex coped with the repercussions.
In the debut episode, Alex delivers a monologue live on-air of the fictional show, where she directly referenced his exit.
Holly and Alex both begin by reassuring themselves. Holly starts with ‘Right, deep breath,’ while Alex commences by saying, ‘Stay strong.’
Next, both women speak directly to the audience at home.
‘Firstly, are you ok? I hope so. It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil,’ said Holly.
‘I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on, and full of questions.
‘You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved.’
While Alex said: ‘And to you at home, I understand how you must be feeling because I and the whole team here at The Morning Show are feeling the same way.’
They both concluded their speeches by sharing their joy at being able to continue their shows.
Viewers took to social media to point out the similarities.

This script sounds very familiar. Wasn't it written for Jennifer Aniston's character in The Morning Show?
Netflix could be charging for this. https://t.co/b2rmAow2qg— Liz Kershaw (@LizKershawDJ) June 5, 2023
Holly Willoughby is literally Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show. A show that they also featured in the background on… full circle moment? 😅 Or subliminal messages? 👀 #thismorning #themorningshow #philipschofield pic.twitter.com/2mB2FkOGZQ

The Morning Show is technically only available on Apple TV+, but you get the idea.
Holly and Schofield had previously appeared on a television screen in the background of The Morning Show, and one observer observed the unique scenario.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
