Happy Valley fans have been flocking to the Bolton cafe where the critically lauded scene between Catherine (Sarah Lancashire) and Clare was filmed (Siobahn Finneran).
Catherine was devastated when she discovered that her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah) had been secretly seeing his father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) in prison for the previous year.
The sergeant learned her sister Clare and boyfriend Neil (Con O’Neill) had been escorting the adolescent to Sheffield prison behind her back, dealing a double blow.
Catherine took it upon herself to witness it with her own eyes after a fellow cop let slip their visits, booking a day off and tracing them all the way to the Northern city.
While Neil and Ryan entered the prison, Clare went to a neighbouring cafe for a cup of coffee, with Catherine watching her from just outside the door.
Catherine gently urged her sibling to tell the truth about her location when she called her, but she continued to lie, and the copper decided to walk right in and give her the shock of her life.
The subsequent scenes between the duo, as well as Catherine’s grief after seeing visions of her murdered daughter Becky, earned the former Corrie star the title of ‘one of the best [actresses] of all time.’
Fans have been rushing to the real cafe, which is headquartered in Bolton, where it was filmed, because the actors’ performances have left such an impression.
The caff’s manager appeared on Lorraine on Friday, when they discussed how business had’soared’ since Sally Wainwright’s drama aired with Jake Quickenden.
They added that they had guests from all across the country, including one lady from London who stayed for three days.
The cafe owner said that she would wait till the table where the scene was shot became available.
And the Londoner isn’t the only Happy Valley fan who has visited Bolton, with the owner claiming that many people have come simply ‘wanting a picture’.
In honour of the programme, they revealed that the team has added a Happy Valley sandwich to the menu, which contains a delectable assortment of items such as prosciutto, pesto, and chicken.
Sarah was observed accidentally making that situation earlier this week when she went to a neighbourhood cafe with her husband, TV executive Peter Salmon.
But, judging by the photos, it was a lot nicer occasion than Catherine and Clare’s meeting in the crime drama.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
