Hannah Waddingham, star of Ted Lasso, has shared her opinion as to why UK viewers may be dissatisfied with the popular show.
The American comedy, featuring Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, and Juno Temple, follows an American football coach, skillfully portrayed by Jason, who is suddenly hired to lead a Premier League football squad.
Ted Lasso looks to be aimed at more athletic audiences, but as Hannah pointed out, this is clearly incorrect.
The Eurovision host appeared on Friday’s This Morning alongside Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, where she explained: ‘I wonder sometimes if British audiences don’t watch it because they think it’s about football.
‘However, it’s really about the human condition that we discover through humor, all the ridiculous things about ourselves, set against the background of football.
‘A brilliant backdrop of football, but its about all of us supporting each other.’
She elsewhere added that she totally underestimated the show, saying: ‘I actually said to Jason Sudeikis, I hope he’s not offended, but myself and Brett Goldstein who is also one of the writers, we stood behind the snack truck at the end of season one, and we were both like, “I don’t think he knows what it is”.’
She went on to say that they expected it to be a ‘one and done, and we’d all fell in love with each other’.
‘Because we hadn’t seen it edited together, and then we were like “Oh!” because it’s just beautiful!’
This comes after President Joe Biden subtly sent Ted Lasso fans into a spin when he announced that the cast of the beloved Apple TV+ comedy would be stopping by for a discussion.
Taking to Twitter, he shared a picture of a yellow piece of paper taped on to a door into the Oval office, with the message ‘Believe’ written across it – similar to the one in the fictional team’s locker room.’
Hannah, who portrays the iconic Rebecca Welton, couldn’t get enough of the news and reacted to Biden’s post in the same way that many of us would.
Quoting the politician’s post, she simply wrote: ‘*Waddingham faints.’
Honestly? Same.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
