Sally Phillips was named the winner of the Great British Sewing Bee celebrity New Year special in scenes that aired tonight.
The 50-year-old Bridget Jones actress saw off competition from The Vivienne, Lesley Joseph and Sabrina Grant in the two-part festive episode, which was judged by Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
In the finale, the contestants were tasked with making a child’s party skirt, before turning old clothes into a recognisable pantomime character in the transformation challenge.
They then created a made-to-measure party dress that evoked memories of a particular New Year’s Eve.
Presenter Joe Lycett revealed the champion and Sally, who attempted to make a pantomime horse, was delighted by the news.
‘I’m so thrilled,’ she said. Thank you so much!’
Speaking to the camera, she continued: ‘Yay! I cannot believe it I’m over the moon.
‘I am definitely not the best sewer in the room, so in the way, they was robbed.’
Sally’s creations were praised by the judges, with Patrick branding them ‘hilarious and brilliant’.
Meanwhile, Esme said: ‘They were fun, they were lively, they brought something special to the sewing room.’
Earlier this month, Denise Van Outen was crowned the winner of the show’s Christmas special, beating Dr Ranj Singh, Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas and comedian Sara Pascoe to the title.
