Kevin McCloud, the host of Grand Designs, was heartbroken after viewing a homeowner’s toilet.
Kevin can’t believe his eyes while assessing a homeowner’s ablution facilities in the newest episode of the long-running architectural series, which airs tonight.
While fans were captivated by the show’s’saddest ever’ house a few years ago, it’s now time to be astounded by the most melancholy toilet.
Danny, a college deputy principal from North Lincolnshire, wants to create a modern, ecological, but economical four-bedroom house among the trees in his present bungalow’s yard for his three children.
But, while he has a lot of desire, he has no expertise as a builder and his £300,000 budget is about to run out.
Danny, on the other hand, is determined to keep on track, which means getting back to basics while installing a restroom on his construction site.
However, when it comes to inspecting the facilities, Kevin is taken aback.
The presenter can be seen approaching a wooden building, which is swiftly revealed to be the outhouse, in an exclusive footage ahead of the programme.
The toilet, while pristine, isn’t exactly a lavish affair, with a toilet bowl inside that lacks a cistern or cover, and there doesn’t appear to be a washbasin for visitors to wash their hands afterward.
There is some toilet paper on hand, but Kevin points out that it has only been hung on a portion of the wall.
‘Now, that is a dunny with a difference!’ he exclaims.
‘He is so tight that he hasn’t even bought a toilet roll holder or a seat for that matter.’
‘Boy does he know how to save money.’
As the camera pans to the unfinished house, Kevin provides an explanation for why things appear so simple.
‘Seven months into a year-long schedule and it’s hard to see if Danny has been saving money or just not spending it,’ he said.
‘Progress has been painfully slow.’
Danny’s ideal home in the episode is to be built right on the brink of a fishing pond, with spectacular bedroom pods placed on steel stilts to give his three children a new existence up in the canopy.
He wants kids to be connected to nature, and he wants the house to embody the innocence of youth.
However, he will encounter engineering challenges, high inflation, and the general stress of building when he returns to live with his mother for the length of the build.
Grand Designs airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
