Dr Hilary Jones explained to viewers that there is zero nutritional value in the coronavirus vaccine on today’s Good Morning Britain amid concerns for Muslims currently fasting for Ramadan.
Ramadan has officially started today, marking the beginning of the annual month of fasting special, which is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and commemorates Muhammad’s first revelation.
Presenter Adil Ray pointed out there might be concerns from the Muslim population about whether it’s okay for observers to take the Covid-19 jab while fasting.
However, Dr Hilary was on-hand to dispel any myths.
‘Today is the start of Ramadan,’ Adil said. ‘The first day of Ramadan. Many Muslims, two to three million Muslims in the UK now, will be fasting. A lot of them will be fasting for 30 days.’
Explaining what Ramadan is, he continued: ‘That means no water or food at all can pass your mouth. And now that under-40s in that community, a very young community, there will be concerns as to whether they can take the vaccine.’

Dr Hilary replied, saying: ‘Yes and they absolutely can.’
He added: ‘As you know, lots of Muslim leaders, Islamic leaders have said it’s absolutely fine, there’s no nutritional value in the vaccine.

‘A part of the Qu’ran says it’s important to stay as healthy as you can and therefore, absolutely [I am] encouraging people to take up their offer of a vaccination.’
Dr Hilary went onto say that it’s unlikely people will need to take medication after having their dose of the vaccine.
‘Very few people need to take paracetamol at all,’ he said. ‘They may get a mild irritation and soreness at the site of the injection, a little bit of a headache, a little bit of tiredness for a couple of hours.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
