Good Morning Britain viewers were left furious after travel expert Simon Calder revealed a loophole for British holidaymakers in red-list countries to avoid forking out thousands to quarantine.
The government announced on Wednesday that from 4am on Sunday, people returning to the UK from Mexico will have to stay in isolation in a hotel for 10 days.
Rebecca and her family were on their way to their dream holiday when she heard the news and said she was in ‘complete disbelief’.
Simon joined today’s programme where he shared advice with Rebecca on how to get back to the UK without having to pay to isolate.
“Of course, anybody who is in Mexico and has got a bit of time and money to spare, the other way to get around this is flying to somewhere like lovely Spain, having a 10, full day holiday there, and quite legally and responsibly you launder your red-list status,’ he said.
“When you turn up at Manchester or Gatwick airport, you just say, “I’ve been in Spain for the past 10 days”.’

Viewers have been unimpressed by Simon’s ‘irresponsible’ recommendation and known as him out on social media.
‘I really don’t suppose you have to be advising viewers the right way to get across the quarantine system by travelling to different nations,’ blasted one. ‘It’s there for a cause.’
Echoing an analogous sentiment, one other raged: ‘So Calder encouraging people to travel from a high-risk Covid country to Spain to avoid financial penalties? This pandemic will never end then on that logic. The blokes a menace.’
‘I think it is totally irresponsible to suggest people fly from a red country to an amber one, maybe spreading Coronavirus, just to beat the system,’ a 3rd added. ‘This is a pandemic, not a game.’
Mexico, Georgia and the French abroad departments of La Reunion and Mayotte have been placed on the crimson record.
Quarantine lodge prices are hovering to ‘better reflect the increased costs involved’, in accordance with the Government.
From August 12 the speed for solo travellers will rise from £1,750 to £2,285.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
