Gogglebox favourite Pete Sandiford revealed how he ended up having a slightly awkward encounter on his first date with wife Paige Yeomans, after accidentally befriending someone else in the pub.
Pete is fairly private about his family life but sometimes chats about Paige and young son Jimmy when appearing on Gogglebox alongside sister Sophie.
He revealed back in September last year he’d tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend and posted a gorgeous snap from their big day, in November.
As Gogglebox returned on Friday night, fans were buzzing to hear a bit more about Pete’s relationship as he returned once more to the sofa.
While the pair are now happily married, the latter revealed why their first date didn’t have quite the smooth start they might have hoped for.
Chatting at the start of the Channel 4 programme on Friday, Pete said: ‘It got quite awkward actually our first date when me and Paige went.
‘We were in a bar in London, and I bought this bloke a beer, which in London, you don’t seem to buy anyone a drink.’
It seemed the kind gesture from the professional TV watcher seemed to go down a bit too well with his new friend.
He added: ’It was like he was my best friend, he didn’t leave us alone, so he was with us for our whole date!’
Very awkward indeed.
Paige has never appeared on the show with her husband, but he has brought their newborn son on for a cameo on more than one occasion.
He first brought baby Jimmy onto the Gogglebox sofas with his little sister Sophie back in September.
The newborn made an appearance again a couple of months later, much to the delight of fans, who dubbed Pete a ‘natural.’
He confirmed his marriage to OK! at the National Television Awards last year, whilst also revealing he’d welcomed the little one: ‘I’m married now! It was nerve-wracking but the best day of my life. Well, second-best day as I’m a dad now, too.
‘I’m buzzing [to be at the NTAs] as I got a full night’s sleep in a hotel so I’m well happy.’
But he shared: ‘[Being a dad is] tiring. The lack of sleep is not cool but it’s definitely worth it.
‘He’s basically a miniature version of me and Paige and that’s what I always wanted so I feel well lucky.’
Gogglebox airs Fridays from 9pm on Channel 4.
