Gavin and Stacey is a sitcom that can be seen several times, which regrettably means that fans are picking up on faults in the series.
The fact that Stacey (Joanna Page) was from Wales’ Barry Island and Gavin (Matthew Horne) was from England’s Billericay was a crucial story point in the BBC sitcom about a young couple and the blending of two families.
The characters may have been spread out at first, but the production preferred to keep things close to home, with the majority of the series shot in Wales.
Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman, who portrayed Gavin’s parents Mick and Pam, recently stated that despite filming the show from 2007 to 2010 and reunited with the actors for a Christmas special in 2019, they’d never even visited Billericay until this year.
Their home was in Dinas Powys, which is around 20 minutes from Cardiff.
Viewers with keen eyes may have seen this a long time ago, as there is a huge inaccuracy in series two, episode seven.
The primary couple is having marital problems since they can’t agree on where to place their foundations. Stacey is residing with her mother in Barry, but she chooses to come to Billericay to attempt to sort things out with Gavin.
As the duo uncomfortably meet at the railway station, there is prominent signage behind them that reads ‘Cardiff’.
The moment spotted by Huffington Post was a major oversight by the production team!
While the places were fabricated, the camaraderie between the cast members was genuine, especially Larry, 75, and Pam, 76, who recently reunited for a road trip recorded for Gold programme Alison & Larry: Billericay to Barry.
Their strong connection began during a chemistry test for the programme, which was created by James Corden and Ruth Jones.
‘In our audition together, we had to do the three steaks Pam scene,’ Larry recalled.
Pam, who is on the Atkins diet, serves herself three steaks for supper in this memorable scene from the first episode. Not three, since one is a genuine steak, one is a substitute for her fries, and the other is a substitute for the peas – sound reasoning.
When Mick questioned her about the meat-laden plate, she declined to eat it because she didn’t want to be known as “three-steaks Pam.”
Larry added: ‘We worked as Pam and Mick straight away. It was the first time we’d had a chance to bond and we did.’
