First Dates: How to apply to be on the Channel 4 dating show

The doors of the First Dates restaurant are back open, as a new line-up of singletons looking to find true love over drinks and a candlelit dinner.

Fred Sirieux is back to welcome all hopeful romantics to the Manchester-based restaurant for the 18th series of the Channel 4 dating show.

The matchmaking show features singletons from all across Britain seeking love, hopeful that a blind date may be the key to finding their soulmate.

While not every date works out, some dates have proven to be very successful, with some couples even going on to tie the knot.

Could you be the next First Dates success story?

How to apply to be on First Dates

Those looking to find love on the show can apply to be a part of the next series via the twentytwenty.tv casting site.

You can apply for the main series or the First Dates Hotel spin-off, while younger applicants can also apply to be featured on the next series of First Dates Teens.

The online forms require you to upload a photograph of yourself, and you can also submit a video if they want to show off more of your personality.

As well as providing details about yourself, the form also asks you to describe your perfect partner in the hope that the casting team will be able to pair you with a perfect match to the best of their ability.

How does First Dates work?

The show claims to use a scientific method in order to match hopefuls with potential partners who could be the one.

The couple will then meet up at a restaurant – currently, The Anthologist in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square – where they will then enjoy a meal together and see if they are compatible.

The pair can then choose to split the bill, and whether to go home together or alone.

They are also asked questions about the date on camera separately before being interviewed together where they are asked if they would like to have a second date.

That can often lead to an awkward moment if one half of the party says no.

The application site also gives an overview about what to expect on the show: ‘First Dates and First Dates Hotel are documentary series which help contributors find a partner from a pool of other singletons and captures the highs and lows of first dates on camera.

‘Each episode will feature a number of intimate first dates. In-depth interviews will help the viewers get to know the daters. Discreet cameras will record the date from start to finish – from first impressions, through all the awkward, heart-warming and funny moments, to the end of the date and the discussion about whether or not a second date is on the cards.’

First Dates airs on Channel 4, Thursday nights at 10pm.
