On Saturday night, viewers of ITV’s singing competition Starstruck had to perform a double take when they believed they saw Rob Beckett on stage.
We’re sorry to inform you that the comedian was not performing an 80s rock hit… Yet even he was persuaded by the doppelgänger and joked that he wondered whether he’d forgotten he’d taken part.
In tonight’s show, aspiring vocalists impersonated music icons such as Diana Ross, Ed Sheeran, and Judy Garland.
Lee, a 37-year-old motorbike instructor, was part of the first team of the night, who produced impassioned impersonation of Jon Bon Jovi.
Lee performed in a throwback wig, bandana, and leather jacket while judges Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight, Shania Twain, and Jason Manford looked on in wonder.
Several admirers, however, couldn’t help but notice that Lee was a carbon copy of Rob.
‘Glad to see the rest of Twitter also thought @robbeckettcomic was suddenyl doing Jon Bon Jovi on #Starstruck,’ one person remarked on Twitter.
‘@robbeckettcomic great cameo on #Starstruck,’ another quipped, while someone else wrote: ‘Starstruck! Jon Bon Jovi or Rob Beckett??’
Rob saw the resemblance and reacted after being tagged by multiple individuals on their Instagram Stories.
Resharing the posts, the comic wrote: ‘F**k sake,’ before adding: ‘Here we go.’
He then joked: ‘I’m starting to think this is me and I just forgot I did the show.’
‘That is 100% me. That’s more me than I am.’
Reacting to one moment of Lee singing on Starstruck, Rob joked: ‘That’s my having a morning s**t face.’
Rob, we’ll have to hear you sing to determine whether or not you were on stage.
While the judges were thrilled by the Bon Jovi vocalists, they did not perform well enough to advance to the next round of the competition.
The Ed Sheeran team won before one of them was picked by the fans to compete in the grand finals.
Starstruck returns next Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
