Penn Badgley isn’t sure if Jenna Ortega will make a surprise appearance in the upcoming season of You, and we’re not sure how we feel about it.
In season two of the Netflix drama, the 20-year-old actress played Ellie Alves, and she quickly became a fan favourite.
Sera Gamble, the showrunner, stated that the Jane The Virgin actress was set to make a big comeback, but Jenna was too busy on the wildly hit Addams Family spin-off Wednesday.
Although Sera stated that executives have plans for Ellie’s comeback once Jenna’s schedule is clear, leading man and executive producer Penn feels that may not be the case for Jenna.
Penn exclaimed, ‘Was she?’ after learning that the Scream star was ‘devastated’ to miss filming. That’s great to hear.’
‘Oh man…’ he said of Ellie’s likely return to Metro.co.uk. The fact is that they [Netflix] would have to pay. She has her Wednesday money now.’
He continued: ‘You got to talk to Netflix. They can’t take it from me either, because we’re talking season five now Netflix!.
‘That would be great obviously, that would be so amazing. I don’t know that it’s going to happen. We’ll see.’
Still, we are keeping hope alive!
Jenna acknowledged her disappointment at missing the newest season at this year’s Screen Actors Guild (Sag) Awards.
‘I was devastated. Easily one of my favourite sets [You] I’ve been on,’ she said.
‘I was so so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday.’
Gossip Girl star Penn has been playing Joe since 2018 but previously requested for the sex scenes to be turned down a notch this time round.
‘I asked Sera Gamble, the creator, “can I just do no more intimacy scenes?”’ he said.
‘This is actually a decision I had made before I took the show.
‘I don’t believe I’d ever said it publicly, but one of the key considerations is, do I want to put myself back on a career path where I’m simply constantly a romantic lead?’ He added this on his podcast, Podcrushed.
You is available to stream on Netflix.
