Emma Mackey has confirmed her departure from Sex Education ahead of the season 4 premiere.
Mackey will return as Maeve Wiley in the next chapter of Sex Education, but it will be her final appearance as the young sex therapist who founded a counselling firm for her classmates with Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield).
After accepting her Bafta for Rising Star on Sunday night, which led her co-star Aimee Lou Wood to cry, Mackey was asked if she’ll feature in a possible fifth season of Sex Education.
‘B****y hell, I just finished the fourth one last week!’ she replied.
‘No, I don’t think so. I think I’ve said goodbye to it. It’s a happy goodbye though.’
Mackey’s leaving comes on the heels of Ncuti Gatwa’s departure.
The Eric Effiong actor acknowledged his departure from Sex Education before of his debut as the new Doctor in Doctor Who.
He announced his departure earlier this month after filming his final scene as Eric, sharing a photo with fans.
Alongside it, he wrote: ‘Last day. Last time. Bye bubs, thank you for all the lessons and for all the strength.’
Tanya Reynolds, Simone Ashley, Patricia Allison, and Rakhee Thakrar have all indicated they will not be returning for season four of Sex Education.
Season four, on the other hand, is already looking promising, with Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy joining the cast as Thomas Molly, a US Ivy University tutor for Maeve.
Sex Education is expected to return to Netflix later this year.
