Sex and the City might be coming back for a new reboot, but judging by one dreadful line from the classic show which has gone viral, there are a few things it might want to leave in the past.
A sequence from the sitcom referencing the Troubles has resurfaced online, and it’s aged painfully badly.
The HBO show, which focused on four women and their love lives in New York, was in just its third episode when it attempted to compare relationship struggles to the conflict in 1998.
Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, says in the clip: ‘As I sifted through the rubble of my marriage skirmish I had a thought; maybe the fights between marrieds and singles is like the war in Northern Ireland.
‘We’re all basically the same but somehow we wound up on different sides.’
Yikes.
It’s hard to believe the clip aired just months after the Good Friday Agreement was signed, which brought a close to the conflict after 30 years.
Hopefully the series doesn’t drop any more clangers like this when it returns for the upcoming reboot on HBO Max reboot, And Just Like That…
Sarah, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will all be back for the new show, but there will be a few notable absentees.
After public swipes at her co-stars, particularly Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall has unsurprisingly opted out of her role as sex-positive favorite Samantha on the show.
While it’s not been confirmed how Samantha’s exit will be dealt with, HBO Max’s chief content officer Casey Bloys gave hints that it will feel natural.
It was also reported that Chris Noth will not be returning to the cast as Carrie Bradshaw’s husband John James Preston, more commonly known as Big.
