RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Tayce has hit back at fellow drag queen Vinegar Strokes over ‘bitter’ comments the performer made about her runway looks on this year’s series.
Last week, Vinegar – who appeared on the first season of Drag Race UK in 2019 – took part in a live-streamed G-A-Y Facebook event called ‘Lockdown Afterparty’ alongside Drag Race UK star Tia Kofi and Drag Race US alum Jiggly Caliente.
During the trio’s conversation, talk circled back to the finalists on series two of Drag Race UK, one of whom is four-time lip sync winner Tayce.
In a snippet from the Zoom chat shared by Tayce on Twitter, Vinegar can be heard saying that in her opinion, ‘the edit’ of Drag Race has made ‘Tayce look better than she actually is’.
Vinegar is captured calling out the fact that she is ‘seeing Tayce in the same jumpsuit, same colours’ on the runway, stating: ‘I’m just a bit bored. I’m sorry, but I’m bored. I’ll just say it as it is.’
The West End performer also makes a remark in the video about Tayce’s relationship with fellow Drag Race series two star A’Whora, with whom Tayce had a brief fling before their time in the competition and who is now her close friend and housemate.
Tayce has fired back a series of tweets in response to Vinegar’s cutting remarks, stating: ‘I’m sorry @TheOnlyVinegar but the drag race edit made me look better then I actually am? Ok. Tell me to my visage next time if that’s not how you feel…’
In the tweet where she shared the extract from the live-stream, Tayce wrote: ‘I mean don’t hold back girl. So sorry I let you down by showing you all my runway looks at brunch before hand. My mistake. I’ll try and bring that “DRAG RACE” version of me that ya looking for next time. Anyway, I’m off to get ready for the finale.’
In a follow-up tweet, Tayce stated that she had ‘forgot how bitter Vinegar actually was until today’.
‘Wouldn’t be so pressed if weren’t meant to be friends. however “friends” is an overstatement now. #byehodgepodge,’ she added.
Despite the hard feelings that there now clearly are between the pair, Tayce stressed to her fans to not send rude messages in Vinegar’s direction.
‘Yes no bullying please or hate towards @TheOnlyVinegar im just hella p***ed,’ Tayce tweeted.
Vinegar is yet to respond to Tayce’s tweets.
A couple of Drag Race UK stars who appeared in the same series as Vinegar implored Tayce to reach out so the pair of them can bury the hatchet.
‘Oh no. That must feel super crap babes. Sorry. Drop her a DM – she talks big but I’m sure she doesn’t mean it. Anyway – keep thriving!’ said Drag Race’s Crystal.
‘Oh this is worse than I thought…..’ drag queen Sum Ting Wong said.
‘Gurl message her and hash it out, lockdown makes people weird I know there’s love between you.’
Tayce is set to appear in the final of Drag Race UK series two this Thursday alongside Lawrence Chaney, Bimini Bon-Boulash and Ellie Diamond.
Today, Tayce tweeted that she is ‘preparing for an amazing night tomorrow’ and said she ‘couldn’t be happier’, thanking her fans for ‘all the constant love and support’.
Drag Race UK returns next Thursday with the final at 7pm on BBC iPlayer.
