Doctor Who fans can now officially begin counting down the days until they see Ncuti Gatwa appear in his first full season.
Last year, the 31-year-old Sex Education star made his debut in the long-running franchise, appearing in the final of three specials that saw former Time Lord David Tennant reprise the role.
His dramatic debut as the Fifteenth Doctor had many fans ‘in tears’ during the groundbreaking regeneration scene.
The BBC has revealed when the upcoming season will premiere.
The eight-eight episodes will premiere on May 11, with the first two available on BBC iPlayer at midnight.
They will also be screened that evening for those who did not binge them the moment they were released, just before the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final.
At the same time, those outside the UK will be able to follow the Doctor and Ruby (Millie Gibson) on their epic adventures via Disney Plus.
The new season follows the pair’s highly acclaimed debut on Christmas Day in The Church on Ruby Road.
The upcoming season will feature the Doctor and Ruby travelling through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, the Regency era in England, outer space worlds, and the 1960s.
Michelle Greenidge will reprise her role as Carla Sunday, Angela Wynter will play Cherry Sunday, and Anita Dobson will portray Mrs Flood.
Special guests will include Jinkx Monsoon, Aneurin Barnard, Yasmin Finney, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, and Indira Varma.
Sharing his excitement about the announcement, showrunner Russell T Davies said it was his ‘great delight’ to ‘unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together’.
‘Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!’ he added.
When the new season premieres, viewers in the UK will be able to choose whether to stream the episodes at midnight or at primetime on Saturday nights on BBC One.
Doctor Who returns on Saturday May 11 to the BBC.
