Brave New World has been cancelled by Peacock after only one season.
The streaming service confirmed it will not be renewing the adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s classic dystopian novel.
Brave New World focuses on a futuristic civilisation controlled through social engineering and divided by intelligence, where the ruling powers maintain order ‘through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family and history itself’.
The series was created by David Wiener and starred the likes of Solo: A Star Wars Story actor Alden Ehrenreich, as well as Game of Thrones’s Harry Lloyd and Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay. Demi Moore also starred in a supporting role.
The show aired on Peacock over the summer in the US, and was shown on Sky One in the UK.
Peacock said in a statement: ‘There will not be Season 2 of Brave New World on Peacock. [David] created a thought-provoking and cinematic adaptation.
‘We’re grateful to the cast and crew who brought this world to life. We look forward to telling more stories with David in the future.’
The show’s debut coincided with the launch of Peacock on July 15 and the series ran for a total of nine episodes. It was one of the most high-profile originals on service.
UCP, the studio behind the drama, will now look to shop the series to new platforms.
Huxley’s groundbreaking novel was the most critically-acclaimed work of the writer’s career, and is often compared to George Orwell’s 1984 as one of the greatest dystopian novels ever written.
The Peackock series was the first major series adaptation of the classic story, following on from television films in 1980 and 1998.
