Dancing On Ice viewers were left confused and surprised to see professional dancer Vanessa Bauer sat in the audience of Sunday’s show despite being unable to take part.
ITV announced on Tuesday that Vanessa had tested positive for Covid, and her partner, former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole, would instead be dancing with Brendyn Hatfield.
At the time, Vanessa shared on Instagram how ‘devastated’ she was that her mum would not be able to watch her perform live for the first time in five years, adding: ‘I also tested positive at the same time last year and life’s just hit a couple times recently so I guess I’ve just had enough – but who doesn’t.’
She praised pro dancer Brendyn for taking her place, wishing the duo luck: ‘Can’t thank you enough for stepping in @brendynhatfield I know you guys will do me proud and absolutely smash it!’
However, viewers were left confused when Vanessa was spotted in the audience during the programme.
One viewer tweeted: ‘Why is Vanessa in the studio if she has covid? I’m so confused. #DancingOnIce.’
Another asked: ‘How does that work Vanessa has tested positive for covid but can still be in the audience?? The isolation rules haven’t lifted yet #dancingonice.’
But one fan cleared the confusion, sharing: ‘Just incase anyone was wondering Vanessa had covid she tested negative the other day I think she put it on her insta! For everyone asking why she’s there #DancingOnIce.’
Vanessa had confirmed her negative test on Instagram, sharing a picture of her with a negative LFT and the caption: ‘Officially done with c***d.’
She later posted another picture posing in front of the rink and wrote: ‘So glad I can watch tonight! Go on team!!’
Although Vanessa could watch Brendan do her proud from her audience seat, she had missed too much practice to perform on skates alongside him.
However, fans weren’t disappointed with the new pairing, as Brendan and Brendyn received an incredible 47 out of a possible 50 marks for their musical week routines to Beggin’ by Jersey Boys and the Four Seasons.
Dame Arlene Phillips handed them the first 10 of the series after their performance, claiming: ‘As far as I was concerned they hit perfection tonight.’
Unfortunately, Bez was eliminated in after a skate-off with Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor.
Dancing On Ice continues tonight at 6pm on ITV.
