Dan Walker rinsed Piers Morgan after the star sensationally quit Good Morning Britain following 41,000 Ofcom complaints over comments made about Meghan Markle.
On Monday, Piers said he didn’t believe the Duchess of Sussex when she revealed she felt suicidal while pregnant with her son Archie, after the former Suits star opened up about her mental health in the now notorious interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Following overwhelming backlash, complaints from viewers, mental health organisations and a row with co-star Alex Beresford, Piers has stepped down from his position at GMB.
However, he won’t be getting any sympathy from his BBC Breakfast rival Dan, who tweeted: ‘Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it… we could make some space for you in the morning.’
Dan and Piers had been at loggerheads in the hours prior to Piers’ departure too.
After Piers stormed out of GMB today, Dan shared a picture of himself alongside co-host Louise Minchin, with the caption: ‘This was taken a few seconds before I stormed off set because Carol said it was going to be chilly this weekend.’
Coming across the tweet, Piers responded: ‘I’m surprised BBC bosses didn’t storm in and drag you off set after yesterday’s ratings came in.’
But Dan had the final say.
‘Congratulations on your ratings [clapping hands emoji],’ Dan wrote. ‘Ours were good too. ITV confirmed news of Piers’ exit in a defining statement, which read: ‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
‘ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’
At the time of writing, Piers is yet to add any further comment.
The broadcaster confirmed talks with Piers were underway and vowed to stand by Meghan.
ITV boss Dame Carolyn McCall said: ‘I completely believe what she (Meghan) said, that the most important thing with mental health that ITV does and is totally committed to, is that we support, we get people to speak up, we listen, we say everyone has to listen and everyone has to believe because that’s how you get people to speak up. So we are very committed to that.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
