Dan Walker‘s Channel 5 show has come under fire following a gaffe involving The Wanted’s Tom Parker.
Parker died last March 30 at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
The late musician detailed his cancer treatment to promote awareness, and his wife Kelsey Parker is now fundraising in his honour.
Siva appeared on Dan’s news show, detailing his time on Dancing On Ice, including one specific performance devoted to Parker, in an emotional discussion about his late buddy.
‘I’m getting emotional five seconds into the interview,’ he said, holding back tears.
‘It was beautiful, because I was so worried… I just wanted to deliver a nice performance for him, deliver a nice memory for his wife and the kids.
‘When his voice started, when you look at the opening scene, I’m like gasping “Tom get me through this”.
‘I’m just so glad it worked out well, and I made a moment and a core memory for the kids.’
Viewers were sidetracked by Siva’s words, though, when they discovered a little error.
Parker’s name was misspelt on the Channel 5 tag, which read:
‘Siva Kaneswaran pays tribute to bandmate Tom Walker’.
One person seethed: ‘@mrdanwalker you didn’t reply to me I asked about the interview last night with @SivaKaneswaran on the loss of Tom Parker it showed his name as Tom walker ? How bad was that.’
Another wrote: ‘Who is Tom Walker, channel 5?’ with a third penning: ‘Tom Walker? Wrong Tom!’
The remarks follow Siva’s reflection on his late friend’s life before of his Dancing On Ice debut.
‘When I think about the past, I simply think about Tom,’ the 34-year-old Irish star said of his time with the musical quartet.
‘Last year Tom passed away…’, he said before becoming tearful.
‘I guess I’m still grieving.’
Siva continued: ‘I witnessed his courage when he was fighting with his illness and it was so inspiring.’
Parker’s fearlessness, he says, has inspired him to tackle his own concerns.
Dan Walker hosts 5 News at 5pm on Channel 5, while Dancing On Ice is available to watch on ITVX.
