Dan Walker has announced that he would return to Channel 5 soon after recuperating from a horrific bike accident.
The former BBC Breakfast presenter was struck by a car while riding her bike to work last week, leaving her with a bruised and bleeding face.
Following the horrific encounter, the 45-year-old stated he was ‘happy to be alive’, yet added he could not recall any further specifics about what happened.
Walker was spotted hosting his first event since being nearly murdered on Wednesday, the Royal Television Society Awards, however he was not seen anchoring.
But, Walker announced on Thursday’s episode of Jeremy Vine that he will be making his on-screen 5 News hosting return very soon.
Speaking to Vine about the accident, Walker said he was ‘very thankful to be here’ before continuing: ‘And to be getting back to be doing the job that I love. I’ll be going back on telly later today.’
During the interview, Walker joked about how quickly his injuries healed, saying, ‘My kids thank Wolverine.’
He also said that he was told by police that five kind-hearted members of the public stayed and waited with him for 25 minutes until the ambulance arrived, despite the fact that he had “zero recall” of them.
Walker previously stated that he is “certain” that he was not to responsible for the event, but he could not go into further detail owing to an ongoing police investigation.
He wrote in The Times newspaper: ‘I know I could have died but I also know how easy it is to make a mistake, even when you’re trying to be careful.
‘I can’t really remember what they (the driver) looked like, from that moment they were looking over me as I came round, but I do recall that they looked deeply distressed and I imagine it is all they are thinking about at the moment.’
He also thanked the police, NHS, and emergency services, as well as friends and family and members of the public, for their assistance following the tragedy, saying he despised ‘doing nothing’ while recovering.
Walker praised his bike helmet with’saving his life,’ eager to silence critics who tried to educate him differently.
‘It’s strange to get lectured by individuals who say bike helmets aren’t necessary when the emergency services at the scene yesterday informed me I probably wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t wearing one,’ he added after returning home earlier this week.
‘Funny old world!’, he declared.
