The Traitors is returning with a bang for a one-off sketch in aid of Comic Relief, and it will feature a slew of celebs.
The first names announced for the Red Nose Day special are Dame Mary Berry, 87, and comic stars Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
Richard Curtis, the creator of Love Actually, announced the good news on Saturday’s Radio 2 with host Claudia Winkleman, who, of course, presented the original The Traitors, which captivated the nation last year.
Claudia, portrayed by Vicar of Dibley’s Dawn (who will undoubtedly be dressed in one of the presenter’s characteristic funnel-necked knits), will assemble the celebrity Faithful and Traitors in the comedy.
In talks full of twists and turns, the stars will have to figure out who the Traitors are among the Faithfuls, much like in the suspenseful series.
Jennifer, 64, remarked that choosing to participate was “the worst day of my life,” adding that “the only reason I consented to this one was to meet Mary Berry.”
Meanwhile, Dawn, 65, stated, ‘This was the second worst day of my life. Meeting Jennifer Saunders was the absolute worst.
‘The only reason I agreed to this one was to show Claudia Winkleman the horror that awaits her in the mirror in 30 years’ time.’
The Traitors, which premiered in November, featured 22 strangers competing in “the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing, and trust” at a Scottish Highlands castle, with three victors sharing the £101,050 prize.
Aaron Evans, Meryl Williams, and Hannah Byczkowski finally won after properly identifying Wilfred Webster as a Traitor.
The BBC officially confirmed the second season in February, with Claudia returning as host.
‘Last year’s ambitious and bingeable smash The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is returning, with the amazing team at Studio Lambert prepared to offer fans another spectacular season full of drama and intrigue,’ said Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC’s head of entertainment.
‘We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and the Faithfuls.’
Comic Relief Night of TV will air on March 17 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
