Countryfile proved to be quite the emotional rollercoaster on Sunday with host Ellie Harrison breaking down in tears as she desperately tried to save some baby lambs.
Instead of its usual stories of walking groups and life one the farm, TV presenter and co-star Adam Henson led the lambing special and found themselves in a desperate bid to save the lives of the two newborns.
Ellie was roped in to help Adam when the babies got stuck during the delivery, and then the mother appeared to reject one of the little ones.
With both trying to come out at the same time, Adam had to push one lamb back into its mother’s womb to give space for the other to come out.
When the baby finally arrived, it didn’t appear to be breathing and Ellie starting to cry as she feared it was dead.
When lambs are first born, they need to have their airways cleared either by their mother or the shepherd or they could risk dying.
Quick thinking Adam then managed to get the mother to bond with the baby, and it started breathing again and it was a sigh of relief to everyone.
An upset Ellie then admitted: ‘Oh my god, I feel really choked by that. It was just so stressful. The thought that she would nearly make it then almost not.
‘Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. I can’t believe you managed to do that. Oh my word. What a relief.’
‘I’m not sure I was [any help]…sobbing in the corner! That was so stressful. I’m laughing now but I was crying a second ago,’ she added.
Viewers cheered on the pair for their quick thinking, saying they had their hearts in their throats as they wished for the little ones’ survival.
Blimey, tonight’s episode of #Countryfile was almost as tense as episodes of #oneborneveryminute! Fond memories of my Dad having to push lambs back in, tying string, up all night, etc. Was what first made me want to be a vet until I realised I was awful at science!! #lambing

That was an amazing episode of #countryfile. Adam literally pushed one lam back into the womb, so that he could untangle its legs from its twin. Ellie was ‘helping†but was crying with emotion watching Adam. They both did brilliantly. Both lambs saved. I donâ€t eat lamb btw.

Just switched over to #countryfile and God heart in mouth as they tried to get two lambs in the wrong position out, held my breath as they tried to get the first lamb to breathe. Great job from them both, that poor presenter!

The special lambing episode saw Ellie and Adam help out on the farm over two days for the spring seasons.
Elsewhere in the episode, the team found out about the value of wool and while there is increasing stockpiling of the clothing material.
Hannah Jackson also interviewed upland farmers who hope to revolutionise the lambing business.
Countryfile continues Sunday at 7pm on BBC Two.
