Christine Lampard recalls the scary moment she believed she was having a stroke.
The 44-year-old TV personality suffers from terrible headaches that can occasionally be accompanied by a ‘aura’ that produces symptoms comparable to a stroke.
Mum-of-two Christine previously co-hosted Dancing On Ice with Phillip Schofield and thought she had the life-threatening disease during one of the shows.
Christine, who hosted Wednesday’s episode of Lorraine, claimed that she could feel a migraine coming on while getting her makeup done before the programme.
‘It got so bad, I genuinely had a moment where I thought I was having a stroke,’ she admitted.
‘I had the whole aura thing, it was almost like I couldn’t move my arms. They were movingbut it was like my brain wasn’t connecting with them – I thought, “This can’t be a migraine, it’s too bad.”
‘But it was. It can be so debilitating.’
Dr. Amir Khan, who appeared on the show, noted that migraines are three times more prevalent in women than in males, owing to a decline in oestrogen levels.
Migraines are more than just unpleasant headaches: they can be much more painful and powerful, stay much longer, and induce vomiting, diarrhoea, and heightened sensitivity to light and sound.
Before a migraine, some people may feel ‘aura,’ which can include vision issues, disorientation, trouble speaking, numbness and tingling in your arms and face, and dizziness.
These symptoms are dangerously similar to stroke symptoms, which can induce facial paralysis, difficulty to lift arms, and inability to talk coherently or without confusion.
Christine’s admission comes after she confessed on a recent Loose Women programme that she nearly died as a youngster before her hero father intervened to save her.
‘I nearly drowned when I was about seven or eight,’ she began.
‘I remember dad literally pulling me out of the swimming pool, and I remember that feeling.’
Christine conquered her phobia of water by volunteering to water-ski 22 kilometres across the English Channel for charity, she continued.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV
