Chris Tarrant wanted to look sharp for his appearance on Good Morning Britain, so he bought a new suit, but there was a major problem.
Although the suit was clean and well-fitting, the retailer had forgotten to remove the security tag, which he had overlooked until it was too late.
Because the plastic connection is meant to be difficult to remove outside of the shop and might even leak ink or damage garments if messed with, Chris did the prudent thing by not attempting to remedy the problem himself.
This meant Chris, 76, had to go through his interview while wearing a large anti-theft gadget on his back.
Viewers of the ITV morning programme saw the wardrobe malfunction and turned to Twitter to make light of the situation.
One person asked: ‘Has the GMB wardrobe team been shoplifting outfits for guests?’
‘Looks like times are tight for Chris Tarrant on GMB if I’m not mistaken that’s a security tag on his jacket,’ chimed in another.
‘How did Chris get out of the shop?’ enquired another.
#ChrisTarrant still has the security tag on his jacket. Has the @gmb wardrobe team been shoplifting outfits for guests? pic.twitter.com/4U7iWFYPbs

Of course, there was a plausible answer, and host Susanna Reid invited Chris to share it with the audience.
‘I’m looking elegant. New suit. First time on. Looking great. But on the back…’ Chris then showed the cameras the issue.
‘It’s still got the shop tag on, and it’s so annoying you can’t cut it off. You’ve got to go back,’ Susanna added.
Chris then said that the security at the shop where he bought the suit wasn’t very good since they should have told the cashier that he had neglected to remove the item. Susanna was also surprised that the buzzers in the ITV building did not sound.
Chris also talked about his hosting duties on the long-running quiz programme Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
From 1994 through 2014, Chris hosted the show. Charles Ingham, a quizzer at the time, reportedly cheated by listening for coughing signs. Chris stated that he had no idea at first, but grew suspicious when he heard the pair bickering in their dressing room.
‘If you’ve just won a million pounds, why would you be arguing?’ he asked Susanna, and co-host Richard Madeley.
The iconic TV personality also described a time when he was trying to blend in at a UK pub and felt he’d gotten away with it until the barman cracked a joke.
‘I ordered a pint and the landlord didn’t really look up. He held it in his hand and said “But we don’t want to give you that”, then he poured it in the swill bucket,’ he explained.
This was a reference to Chris’ famous catchphrase where he’d hold out a cheque before saying ‘but we don’t want to give you that,’ and offering contestants the chance to compete for more money.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
