Chris Eubank has left Danny Dyer’s new reality show Scared of the Dark, which sounds terrifying.
The former professional fighter, 56, was scheduled to appear on the Channel 4 show, alongside Paul Gascoigne, Scarlett Moffatt from Gogglebox, and comic Chris McCausland.
They are joined by actor Donna Preston, reality sensation Chloe Burrows, The Wanted’s Max George, and former professional boxer Nicola Adams.
While earlier reports claimed that Chris left the programme due to ‘not being permitted to smoke cannabis,’ we understand this is not the case.
A source had previously told The Sun: ‘Chris was a great signing and really interesting figure, but he was very restless and irritable.
‘It just became apparent that he couldn’t cope and wanted out. Not being able to smoke his cannabis seemed to be a big issue.
‘He made it very clear to other people on the show that he wanted to smoke and felt he should be allowed to, but obviously taking illegal drugs on a mainstream TV show just isn’t going to happen.’
However, Metro.co.uk believes that while Chris has left the show, it was not for that reason, as Channel 4 also added to The Sun that Chris had departed ‘voluntarily’.
The broadcaster insisted: ‘It’s untrue to suggest that anyone was asked to leave the set of Scared of the Dark because they were smoking.
‘Smoking was strictly prohibited and there were alarms throughout the building. The celebrities remained inside the bunker for the duration of their stay, being filmed for 24 hours a day, by over 50 cameras.’
The celebrities live in a space dubbed The Bunker, which is intended to shut out all light and is outfitted with 50 infrared cameras.
The show will track the celebrities as they adjust to life in the dark over the course of five nights.
If the celebs want to escape The Bunker (and who wouldn’t, let’s be honest), they must simply exclaim, ‘I’m Scared of The Dark,’ and they are led into the light.
Each star will face a succession of challenges intended to test either their primal dread of total blackness or their ability to operate in complete darkness.
Those who fail their trials will be forced to perform herculean chores in order to keep their spot on the programme.
On hosting the terrifying show, Danny said: ‘This is possibly one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever done in my career, and I have done a lot of mad things.
‘Throw in a bunch of celebs and make them do things with the lights off – it’s proper good telly.
‘You’re gonna laugh, you’re gonna laugh some more and I promise you’re gonna love it.’
Scared of the Dark is coming soon to Channel 4 and All4.
