An interview with Dermot O’Leary on This Morning turned into a lovable riot when a four-year-old ‘child genius’ wouldn’t stop jumping on him, high-fiving him, and generally having a good time during the whole segment.
Dermot and Alison Hammond invited Teddy Hobbs and his mother Beth to appear on their ITV show on Friday.
Teddy has joined Mensa, the world’s largest and oldest high-IQ society, making him the youngest member of Mensa ever from Great Britain.
Nonetheless, Dermot triggered the prodigy by demanding a high five when he came for his interview with the hosts of This Morning… hence leading in the kid repeatedly pointing for more high fives as they built a sweet relationship in front of the cameras.
The sight and sound of Teddy playing with Dermot proved to be a constant distraction as Beth sought to continue the interview and explain when she first realised Teddy’s IQ was above average, with the ability to count to 100 in seven different languages.
Teddy started jumping on Dermot after the broadcaster gave him a series of high fives, and Dermot joined in the fun by collapsing back onto the sofa.
Alison went to her coworker at one point and exclaimed, ‘Dermot O’Leary, I’m trying to have an interview! And you’re just playing.’
‘What am I supposed to do?!’ Dermot replied, as he fell back yet again on the couch, while Alison giggled.
Alison tried to comfort Beth by telling Teddy to return to his mother, but the four-year-old quickly got down from her lap and gave Dermot another high five.
After Teddy rushed over to Dermot, he took him up and tickled him on the couch, to the child’s obvious delight.
Several Many fans of This Morning remarked on how happy they were to see Dermot agree to Teddy’s request for a game of tag.
‘This is carnage. it’s brilliant!’ one person tweeted, while another said: ‘Dermot is just a big kid himself isn’t he?!’
Dermot, instead of forcing the kid to sit there and do nothing, you should let him play. It was also mentioned that he and Alison are the best.
One viewer wrote: ‘Child genius on #ThisMorning having the absolute time of his life. I’ve not heard a word his mum has said!’ as another person remarked: ‘Dermot and the 4-year-old genius playing together during this interview is just delightful and hilarious.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
