Carol McGiffin has made another swipe at her old programme, Loose Women.
The 64-year-old quit the ITV daytime programme last year, and fans’ expectations that she might return one day have been shattered.
She took to Instagram to say that, while some people may wish to see her back on TV, she is unlikely to appear again.
‘Apparently, some people are missing me,’ she wrote to her 154k followers.
‘Not because I haven’t been on here for ages but because I’m not on that daytime ITV show I used to do, Loose Women.’
She then referred to Loose Women as ‘that little job’. Who knew three words could say so much?
‘Sadly that little job isn’t coming back but I’m not totally retired yet!’ it read.
Carol then told supporters that they may instead listen to her podcast What’s Your Problem With Nick Abbot and Carol McGiffin? In the episodes, Carol and Nick, an LBC Radio broadcaster, attempt to resolve listener difficulties.
Carol began working on Loose Women in 2000, just one year after its inception, and continued until 2013, before returning in 2018 and departing again in 2023.
Carol was recognised for her willingness to express herself on the show, which featured four women discussing contemporary themes, personal tales, and interviewing guests. This hasn’t ceased since her departure, which she attributed to contract concerns.
In her weekly column for Best magazine, Carol wrote at the time: ‘The problem was, ITV were insisting, for the first time since I went back in 2018, that if I wanted to carry on doing the show, I would have to sign a contract that was totally unjust and unworkable for me, so I had to say “no thanks”.’
She added that she’s been ‘quite upset about it’, and said it was a decision she was ‘forced to make’.
‘No one in their right mind would have signed that contract and I can’t see a way back from it.’
Shortly after deciding to leave, Carol appeared on GB News and called the show ‘very woke’.
‘Well put it this way, reading all the comments from the article at the weekend there are a lot of people who think the programme has gone very, very woke,’ she began.
Wokeness means to be aware of and concerned about social injustice and discrimination. Although the term is complimentary as it can mean being clued up on what’s happening in the world and how certain groups are unfairly treated, it’s often been weaponised as an insult to insinuate things have gone ‘too far’.
Carol continued: ‘You just don’t have to keep forcing this stuff down people’s throats. It’s not just ITV, the BBC is probably worse actually.’
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1.
