Phones play their part in Love Island – but can the contestants use their personal ones? (Picture: ITV)
The long hot summer is about to kick off as Love Island 2021 makes its way on to our screens – bringing the series back for the first time since early 2020.
This year’s series will see a return to the show’s Spanish villa, with 11 new contestants initially moving in and looking for love – and no doubt bringing the drama as they do.
Of course one thing we’ll be hearing again on the show is the shout of ‘I’ve got a text!’ every time one of the Islanders receives some important news.
They’ll be getting those on their phones, of course – but are they allowed to take their actual phones in the villa, and can they have any contact with the outside world?
Here’s what you need to know…
Can Love Island contestants use their phones in the villa?
The short answer is no – Love Island contestants cannot use their own phones in the villa.
They are, however, issued with phones for use on the show – which can only be used for certain limited purposes.
The handsets are used for the production team to communicate with the contestants in the event of big announcements.
