Bridgerton season 2 has finally landed with less sex and more passion with Anthony and Kate Sharma’s romance taking the spot light for a more PG audience than Daphne and The Duke.
The move was a conscious decision by creators, which has been celebrated by the cast.
But after millions got hot under the collar for Rege-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor’s characters romps, this time Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) are a little more restrained, at least on screen.
Hours after the second series dropped on Netflix today some fans of the period drama are missing the nudity.
One horny audience member longing for some on-screen action, tweeted: ‘3 episodes into Bridgerton and no sex scene Mtcheew!!!!’
‘And as much as I appreciate the lack of sex scenes to increase Anthony and Kate sexual tension I gotta go find me some smut fanfic,’ said another, which was echoed by others who said they were ‘disappointed’.
But for every critic there was another fan still getting turned on by Anthony and Kate’s intense connection.
One moment in particular caught people’s attention when Anthony and Kate go hunting.
‘They said no sex scenes this season but Anthony showing Kate how to hold a gun was literally R rated,’ said one fan, while another agreed: ‘The heavy pants to each other’s mouth and Anthony taking in Kate scent honestly hotter than any sex scene.’
Speaking at a Bridgerton press conference ahead of season two, creator Chris Van Dusen explained why there was less sex in season two.
‘We’ve never done a sex scene for the sake of doing a sex scene and I don’t think we ever will,’ he said.
‘It all serves a larger purpose and it’s a different story this season.
‘Different characters, where we’re with Anthony and Kate most of the season and that’s very different from Daphne and Simon.’
Simone also defended the minimal use of intimate scenes.
She said: ‘They aren’t performative sex scenes or intimate scenes, they have a meaning behind them and I think they’re very earnt when the fireworks happen.’
Bridgerton season 2 is available to stream now.
