Bridgerton fans are demanding more gay sex from the Netflix series after believing they were ‘queerbaited’ in the trailer.
The period drama, based on the books by Julia Quinn, piqued the interest of viewers in a teaser, when two men were seen in a clinch briefly for the new drama.
But following the show’s launch on Christmas Day, viewers were disappointed to see that this one scene was pretty much all the LGBT representation they were going to get out of the show.
While Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) has been interpreted by many to be gay or bisexual, the character is never seen in an embrace, instead embracing a life at debaucherous parties filled with sex.
It’s at one of these orgy-esque soirees that he walks into a room where two men are seen in a sexual embrace, before quickly shutting the door on them.
The scene was brutally fleeting, and fans of the sex-heavy show feel they were let down by the lack of representation, and hope for it to be fixed should there be a season two.
Taking to Twitter, Bridgerton viewers claimed the scene’s inclusion in the trailer was ‘queer baiting’, and demanded it to be fixed.
While season one may have been slightly lacking in LGBTQ+ representation, it does appear that Benedict is heading towards being gay in future episodes.
Many viewers have noted the sexual chemistry between him and the portrait painter, with a discussion about hiding their desires behind a marriage.
However, he was then seen getting together in a straight with dressmaker Madame Delacroix, with whom he frequents these debaucherous parties.
Bridgerton is available now on Netflix.
