Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad, believes he will bid an emotional farewell to Walter White once his SuperBowl commercial airs.
The revolutionary series, which centred on a high school chemistry teacher who resorted to crime after being diagnosed with terminal illness, aired its last episode in 2013.
Walter was accidently shot with a remote-activated machine pistol while producing and trafficking methamphetamine alongside former classmate Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), with the TV show’s producer revealing years later that he had in fact been dead.
However, the Malcolm in the Middle star, 66, is repeating his classic job – marketing popcorn snacks during the Super Bowl – and this might be his final appearance in his distinctive fedora hat.
‘This might be the retiring episode of the Breaking Bad universe,’ he told Extra.
He added: ‘I’ve had opportunities to bring Walter White into the milieu.’
‘I did it for Aaron’s movie El Camino and then once again for Better Call Saul.
‘We were able to come back and each time, we think, ‘Well, this is the last time we’re ever going to do this and then PopCorners calls and it was like, ‘Well, we’ll do it one more time.’
Although Breaking Bad officially wrapped up in 2013, Bryan has since reprised his role in cameos for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and in the final season of Better Call Saul last year.
Although there is no evidence of a reboot for that show, Frankie Muniz hinted last year that there may be one for Malcolm in the Middle, which he indicated might be written by his former co-star and on-screen father Bryan.
He said: ‘I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100%.’
Breaking Bad is streaming on Netflix.
