Bradley Walsh is preparing to leave Doctor Who behind after this year’s New Year’s special, and he’s been looking back at some of his finest moments.
Bradley and Tosin Cole are saying goodbye to the series with this year’s festive episode Revolution of the Daleks, bringing an end to two years in the role of Graham O’Brien for Bradley.
He’s been a companion to Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Time over the course of 22 episodes, and now he’s revealed which one he’s most proud of.
‘I mean my favourite episode of all the shows… I think I’ve made 22 now… was the Rosa Parks one, by a country mile,’ he told RadioTimes. ‘And how relevant has that now been, over the last year?’
The episode from 2018 saw the Doctor and her companion head to the Deep South of America, encountering Rosa Parks during her fight for civil rights in 1955.
Bradley added: ‘I think [Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall] himself is not frightened to confront stuff like this. And I think that’s great. And I think the fact that we have someone like the boss… and the boss is Jodie Whittaker by the way, the boss of the acting department… is great.’
The actor added: ‘’You want to portray a story and people that have something in common with the people that are viewing the show. So whether it be a cancer issue. Whether it be mental health. Or a fear of spiders! And you’ve got to try and deal with it in such a compassionate way as well.’
Two of the show’s stars might be leaving after the festive special, but one person who won’t be is Mandip Gill.
The actress, who has played Yasmin Khan on the time travelling drama since 2018, has explained why she isn’t leaving the show, saying she is ‘not ready for this journey to end’.
Speaking about her co-stars exit, Mandip previously said: ‘We knew it was coming so we’ve had a while to get our heads around it. Brad and Tosin are such big characters, and I’ll really miss them on set.’
Revolution of the Daleks will air on New Year’s Day on BBC One.
