A first look at the upcoming Blankety Blank Christmas special has been released, showing Bradley Walsh assuming presenting duties for the iconic game show.
Blankety Blank first launched in 1979, when it was hosted by late national treasure Sir Terry Wogan for four years.
The programme tasked contestants with filling in the blanks of sentences, in an attempt to match the answers of six celebrity guest panellists.
A famous element of the show was the consolation prize – a silver Blankety Blank chequebook and pen.
That legendary prize will be making a very welcome comeback in the one-off festival special, which is being hosted by The Chase star Bradley.
In the first look at the special episode, Bradley, 60, is joined by several celebrity guests, including comedian Jimmy Carr, actor Emilia Fox and broadcaster Anita Rani.
Also on the panel are McFly musician Danny Jones, comedian Sue Perkins and boxer Amir Khan.
In the trailer, Jimmy jokes with Amir that Boxing Day must be a ‘bigger deal’ than Christmas in his family.
Meanwhile, a contestant called Kurt is asked to fill in the blank for a sentence which goes: ‘Santa’s blessed with a generous…’ to which he hilariously responds: ‘Sack.’
The BBC has promised that the contestants taking part in the show will be in with a chance of winning ‘brilliant prizes’.
But… that all depends on how in sync they are with the famous faces on the panel.
After the game show was presented by Sir Terry, Les Dawson became the host of Blankety Blank from 1984 until 1990.
A revival of the programme was launched in 1997, when it was hosted by Paul O’Grady as Lily Savage until 1999.
It was later relaunched on ITV as Lily Savage’s Blankety Blank, which only remained on air from January 2001 until August 2002.
David Walliams has also hosted the show before, having taken on the responsibility for a 2016 Christmas special.
It was recently announced that Bradley would be leaving Doctor Who after the Christmas special.
Bradley has been on the show since 2018, playing Graham O’Brien, a companion of the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).
The Blankety Blank Christmas special is due to air on Christmas Day at 7pm on BBC One.
