The BBC has published its official TV schedule for Christmas and New Year, meaning the nation can plan what to watch this festive season.
Kung Fu Panda films, Gavin & Stacey Christmas special, and Miranda’s Games will be keeping us entertained on Christmas Eve, while Christmas morning will begin with The Gruffalo and end with a Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special.
A whole host of Madagascar movies occupy the listing for Boxing Day while we nurse those hangovers, before Aston Villa takes on Crystal Palace.
Looking towards the end of 2020, and the BBC has made room for The Great British Sewing Bee: Celebrity New Year Special.
The Graham Norton New Year’s Eve Show will air before Alicia Keys Rocks New Year’s Eve and the annual Happy New Year Live!.
The corporation has named Captain Underpants as its first film of 2021, closely followed by Scared Shrekless and The Boss Baby. Arguably the biggest draw of the New Year’s Day schedule is the long-awaited Doctor Who Special – which will see the return of the Daleks.
Doctor Who bosses have also confirmed the special will see the departure of Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole.
Bradley, who plays Graham O’Brien, and Tosin, who plays Ryan Sinclair, are leaving the sci-fi after two years of starring alongside Mandip Gill and Jodie Whittaker.
The Chase host Bradley described the final episode as ‘very, very dramatic’.
‘It is very sad. It is quite sad and poignant is the word. You can expect a lot of poignancy from the episode,’ he explained.
While there’s much to look forward to, not everyone has been blown away by the BBC schedule.
‘Does the BBC not have any decent films to show? What about a Christmas one? Kung Fu Panda & Madagascar – how many more times? At least I’ll be asleep or drunk by 10 and miss the abomination that is Mrs BBs,’ fumed one.
Echoing a similar sentiment, another vented: ‘Oh dear. With the exception of Paddington, Moana & Strictly… that is a dire line Christmas Schedule. Why Mrs Brown’s Boys AGAIN? Haven’t we suffered enough this year?’
