The Bafta TV Awards 2023 nominees have been released, with This Is Going to Hurt and The Responder each earning six nods.
Meanwhile, Bad Sisters, The Crown, The English and Slow Horses have all gotten five nominations, and Daisy May Cooper’s Am I Being Unreasonable? and Big Boys, have four.
Somewhere Boy and Top Boy both got four nominations, with Jasmine Jobson and Saffron Hocking nominated for Supporting Actress.
Leading actor nominees include Ben Whishaw and Martin Freeman, as well as Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy, while leading actress nominees include Billie Piper and Imelda Staunton, for I Hate Suzie Too and The Crown, respectively.
Friday Night Live competes with The Graham Norton Show, Taskmaster, and Would I Lie To You? for comic entertainment, while The Chase and The Repair Shop compete with Scam Interceptors for daytime entertainment.
Claudia Winkleman is also nominated for her role in The Traitors in the area of entertainment performance, with Sue Perkins, Mo Gilligan, Lee Mack, Rosie Jones, and Big Zuu.
Meanwhile, Saturday Night Takeaway, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, is nominated for an entertainment programme, alongside The Masked Singer and Strictly Come Dancing.
Martin Lewis’ Money Show is also nominated in the feature category, while the smash Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Wednesday are nominated in the international category.
Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan have been named as the hosts of the star-studded ceremony on May 14, which will air at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
Talking about the nominations being announced on BBC Breakfast, shortly after the full list was revealed, TV critic Scott Bryan said: ‘One of the joys of the nominations at the moment with TV ones, this is the weird thing where we’re going to be celebrating last year’s TV, it’s the calendar year of 2022 celebrating in 2023, but a lot of the shows you can catch up now.’
‘There’s a big buzz and a big loyalty to these shows,’ he added. ‘It’s lot about rising talent at the moment.’
The Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer won leading female performance for her portrayal in Help at the Bafta TV Awards 2022, while her co-star Kathy Tyson won supporting actress.
Even though Sean Bean was unable to attend the presentation, he received the award for leading male performance, while Matthew Macfadyen received the prize for supporting actor.
Ant and Dec‘s Saturday Night Takeaway won the entertainment award, while Big Zuu had a big night, winning in two categories: features and entertainment performance.
