The popular Channel 5 show Challenge Anneka, starring Anneka Rice, will not run this weekend.
The four-part documentary follows the 64-year-old TV host and her team of volunteers as they tackle various problems, honour everyday heroes, and support communities in need.
Anneka said of the new series: ‘There will always be a room for challenge on television, because it’s about kindness, it’s about community, it’s about the power of the collective. As humans we are totally hardwired to be altruistic.’
This episode will see Anneka charged with constructing seven stores, a village green, stunning landscaping, and an onsite café where carers could rest and relax.
A spokesperson said: ‘The first episode of Challenge Anneka was enjoyed by 1.25 million / 10% viewers, but Saturday evenings are always highly competitive, especially at this time of year.
‘The public and critical reaction to Challenge Anneka’s return has been amazing and we have decided to preserve the remaining two shows and reschedule them soon.’
Instead, Channel 5 will air Royal documentaries this Saturday. Zara & Mike: The People’s Royals will air at 8:30 p.m., followed by a 9:30 p.m. replay of Fergie & Meghan: Inconvenient Royals.
The original show, which was revived on ITV for two special episodes that aired in 2006 and 2007, drew up to 12 million viewers who tuned in to watch Anneka descend by helicopter in a location she had no prior knowledge of.
Anneka, who earlier confessed she didn’t like the show’s name, would then be faced with convincing people and businesses to assist her in completing a philanthropic project in record time.
Challenge Anneka is available to stream on My5.
