Alison Hammond made an unfortunate blunder when she accidentally called Deidre Sanders ‘Denise’, in reference to late This Morning agony aunt Denise Robertson.
Ahead of the England vs Scotland match tonight at Euro 2020, Friday’s edition of This Morning saw callers ring up to share their ‘football fall-outs’ with Deidre, Alison and Dermot O’Leary.
One caller, named Amanda, explained that her dad gets upset because her fiancé supports a rival team, going so far as to ask him to not wear any Wolverhampton kit at a Christmas dinner.
After listening to Amanda’s predicament, Alison remarked to Deidre that this was a difficult situation… while accidentally calling her by the wrong name.
‘This is a tricky one, isn’t it Denise?’ the co-host said.
Deidre, continuing to smile fixedly at the camera, corrected Alison by softly saying her name.

‘Sorry, apologies,’ Alison said off-camera, while Deidre assured her that ‘other people make that mistake’.
Denise, who died in 2016 at the age of 83 after suffering from cancer, appeared on the very first episode of This Morning in 1988, offering advice to viewers and remaining a part of the show until her death.
She was given her own segment on This Morning in 2000 called Dear Denise, before being appointed an MBE for services to broadcasting and charity six years later.
One This Morning viewer who caught Alison’s slip of the tongue remarked that the reference to Denise was a ‘blast from the past’.
Another pointed out that earlier in the show, the presenter also accidentally called a guest by her cat’s name, before quickly correcting herself.
‘I love her so much, reminds me of my mum who could never get our names right!’ the fan added.
Earlier on today’s This Morning, viewers were left baffled by the story of the pet owner who accidentally cremated the wrong cat after hers went missing.
Rachel, from Cheshire, explained that after her cat Frankie disappeared, she learned of a cat who died on the side of a motorway who bore a resemblance to her own.
After having the cat in question cremated, just over three weeks later, Frankie came home, much to the family’s amazement.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
