Alex Jones clarified the purpose she thought was behind Matt Baker’s conversation with David Cameron on The One Show.
The 56-year-old former prime minister made an appearance on the popular BBC show back in 2011, which is full of wild and funny moments.
The 45-year-old co-hosting alongside Alex, 46, had a straightforward conversation with the former Blue Peter broadcaster when she hurriedly questioned the former politician, “How on earth do you sleep at night?”
‘I’ve always managed to sleep okay,’ Cameron replied. ‘If you work hard during the day and get your stuff done, try and put it behind you. At the end of the day, if you’re exhausted you’ll make rotten decisions.’
Alex has a theory, although it’s unclear if this was a jab at Cameron or just an innocent query.
The Welsh presenter appeared on podcast Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster where the comedians brought up the hilarious exchange.
Reflecting on the interview, she said: ‘Nobody’s really asked me about that before and I think, I genuinely think, knowing Matt really well, he didn’t mean it to be a question about…
‘I don’t think he meant it [like]: “How do you sleep because of all this terrible stuff going on in your mind?”
I think he meant: “Because you’re so busy, just how do you sleep? You’re running a country, how do you sleep?”
‘And I think Matt ran with it because it was a bit cooler, the other version. But who knows what was in his brain at that time.’
But the question went down a storm with The One Show crew who ‘got T-shirts printed at work with that question on the back,’ Alex revealed.
Regardless, it’s still right there with one of The One Show’s best bits, which was best captured by past guest Mel Brooks.
The 96-year-old High Anxiety actor made an appearance on the programme in 2017, but he struggled to understand the wide range of topics covered.
‘What a crazy show this is!’ Mel exclaimed. ‘This is nuts!’
The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
