After more than a decade on The Voice, Adam Levine has given his candid feelings on Blake Shelton’s exit.
Last year, the country artist announced his departure, announcing that the current season would be his final.
He is also the competition’s sole remaining original coach, having been with the team from its inception in 2011.
When attending the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday, Adam, who departed the show at the conclusion of season 16 in 2019, was asked about his former co-choice star’s and didn’t hold back.
He joked to Entertainment Tonight: ‘It’s about time!’
Blake announced his departure from our screens in October, leaving fans distraught.
The music legend announced the news on Instagram, saying that it was a difficult profession to leave.
‘I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season,’ he began. ‘This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me.
‘It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion and adult beverages (ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.
‘I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!
‘I have to give a huge shoutout to the singers – the Voices, who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach.’
He concluded: ‘Lastly, it’s about y’all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice who are chasing their dreams. It would not
Blake is acting as coach for the last time in the competition’s current season, with Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Chance, The Rapper.
‘If he was going to do a last season, I wanted to make sure I was there,’ Kelly told ET of her colleague’s last series, insisting there would be no preferential treatment.
‘If [Blake] wins, I am very happy for him, because that is super cool to win on the last season and he’s literally the show, from its conception.
‘But I’m not rooting for him to win. I’ll be happy for him if he does, but I’m obviously trying to win myself.’
The Voice airs at 8pm ET on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
