The moment many music fans have been waiting for all year will shortly arrive, when Spotify Wrapped 2023 is revealed.

Spotify Wrapped is a look back at all the music and podcasts a Spotify user has listened to on a regular basis during the course of the data collection.

The yearly snapshot is highly popular, frequently trending on social media as music lovers share their results – and Spotify will also tell who the most played artists globally were in the previous year.

Some users may even be among the top listeners for a specific artist, which may be something to celebrate or hide depending on your musical tastes (and who it is!).

But how long does Spotify consider when calculating its calculations, and when does it cease counting for current year?

Everything you need to know is right here.

When does Spotify Wrapped stop counting?

There is significant disagreement over when Spotify stops counting before publishing the Wrapped playlists for the previous year.

When looking for your top artists, songs, and genres, the service previously said that it only counts from January 1 to October 31 – which might explain why your list isn’t overflowing with Christmas tunes or tracks released in the last couple of months of the year.

Hey Stephen! We’re afraid that listening to a bunch of stuff right now won’t make any difference to this year’s or next year’s Wrapped. This is because Wrapped only covers the 1st of January until the 31st of October for any given year. Hope this clears things up /GK

— SpotifyCares (@SpotifyCares) December 10, 2019

However they have since hinted that they could continue counting for longer – with a tweet last year suggesting that October 31 may not be the cut-off date after all.

The only thing that we end on Halloween is eating candy corn. Stream (and snack) all through the year and we will see you in Wrapped season.

— Spotify (@Spotify) October 13, 2022

One stream is only counted after thirty seconds of a track is played – either online or offline.

When does Wrapped 2023 start?

Regardless of the deadline, Spotify has been collecting data for Wrapped 2023 since January 1.

Although there is no definite date for the release of Spotify 2023, it was launched on December 1, 2021 and November 30, 2022, so you can expect it to be published around the same time this year.

In the meanwhile, you may listen to prior Wrapped playlists by Googling ‘Spotify Wrapped’ and entering the year you choose on the Spotify app.

Who was the most popular artist on Spotify in 2022?

Taylor Swift was the most streamed artist in the UK last year, following the release of her album Midnights.

Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Harry Styles came after her.

Bad Bunny has been the most-streamed artist in the world for the third year in a row.

Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd, and BTS came after him.

In the UK, Harry Styles’ As It Was led the pack, followed by Glass Animals’ Heat Waves, Dave’s Starlight, and Kate Bush’s 80s classic Running Up That Hill, which reached the top of the charts 37 years after it was first released thanks to its inclusion in Stranger Things.

As It Was was followed globally by Heat Waves, Stay by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber, and Bad Bunny’s Me Porto Bonito.
