Daniel Craig just doesn’t understand the frenzy around Chris Evans’ jumper in Knives Out.
Following the release of the first movie in 2019, audiences went wild over Evans’, 41, cream cable knit, which made his character, Hugh Ransom Drysdalel, look super cosy, even if he did end up being the mastermind behind his grandfather’s murder.
However, Craig, 54, – who plays detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s franchise – is baffled by the whole thing.
‘It’s the bit that goes over my head. I don’t understand,’ he said. ‘It’s like, so Chris Evans is wearing a jumper.’
He continued to BBC Radio 1: ‘It’s like, he’s naked or at least naked from the sort of waist down, wearing a jumper.
‘I’m like, “He’s just wearing a jumper.” News is like, “Chris Evans wears jumper!”‘
The James Bond actor added: ‘Sure, it’s a living. He does it very well. He wears it very beautifully.’
And while Evans’ character left the first movie in handcuffs, Craig returned for the sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Starring Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, and Edward Norton, the second instalment follows tech billionaire Miles Bron (Norton), who invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island.
But things soon turn sinister when someone turns up dead, leaving Blanc to solve the case.
The film – which landed on Netflix on December 23 after a short cinema release – has received rave reviews, with fans already proposing ideas for a cast for a third outing.
However, Craig recently admitted that he ‘had no plan’ for his career after bowing out as 007, and he ‘fell’ into the Knives Out role.
‘I’m just incredibly lucky as an actor and as a human being, to have done all of that [Bond] and have had that amazing experience and to have fallen into this film with Rian [Johnson, director],’ he told Metro.co.uk.
‘For Rian to have sent me this script and the first script for Knives Out and to have got to make that movie – there’s no plan involved, it’s just great.
‘One thing I have in later life as an actor is a bit more choice, and if I have a choice, I choose to work with him.’
Craig went on to explain how he gets into character, with Blanc’s distinct Texas accent being what truly helps him immerse himself in the role.
‘I like the fact that he’s an enigma. I think it’s really important that he remains a little mysterious. It is really about the other characters in the movie. He’s a good listener, he’s very curious, that’s part of his technique – he wants people to sort of hang themselves and they do.’
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is now streaming on Netflix.
