Ali Tate Cutler, a Victoria’s Secret model, taped one of her final encounters with her grandmother, whom she affectionately refers to as ‘Bubbie,’ before leaving Canada.
Ali, 33, has been posting emotional videos on social media in which her grandmother, who is terminally sick with cancer, answers questions about her decision to seek euthanasia.
Ali, who is located in Texas, claimed in a video released on TikTok on Friday (May 19) that the next day would be the final time she ever saw her grandma, who travelled to Canada on Saturday, implying that the recordings the runway sensation shared with her followers were some of their last moments together.
Ali addressed her grandmother a variety of questions regarding her choice to seek assisted suicide in one of her most recent Instagram videos, from the ins and outs of the surgery to whether she’d prefer to have it done at home or in the hospital.
Ali captioned her post: ‘I will treasure this conversation forever. TBH, I was very resistant to euthanasia before she told me her decision.
‘It felt unethical to me. But I have had my mind changed after hearing her reasons and I’m so happy that she has the option available in Canada.
‘How to live well and die well are codes, and she has given me knowledge on both. To the Goat.’
The model was inundated with support, with one person writing beneath the clip: ‘Thanks for sharing this. I’ve never seen anything like this before. She’s an amazing woman. Lots of love.’
Another added: ‘Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable experience to open up this conversation. Sending love to you and your family.’
‘Sending you so much love Ali, this must be tough but I love that you two shared this conversation with us, thank you,’ someone else wrote.
Ali, widely known as Victoria’s Secret’s first plus-size model, came to Instagram Stories on Monday to talk about the significance of breaking down taboos around death, but she didn’t name her grandma.
Canada implemented its medical assistance in dying (MAID) law in 2021, and in order to be eligible for MAID, two independent healthcare professionals must concur.
A person does not have to be terminally ill to qualify for MAID, and other procedural protections, like as medical assessments and written requests, are in place.
MAID is not available to those whose only underlying ailment is mental illness.
