Bella Ramsey, who plays Bella in The Last of Us, has declared that she is leaving Twitter after receiving a lot of abuse.
The Worst Witch, Becoming Elizabeth, and Catherine Called Birdy were among the films in which Bella, 19, made her acting debut as the young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones.
Her breakthrough performance, however, came this year when she co-starred in the TV version of the video game The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal.
She has already discussed the effects of the trolling she has experienced since being cast in that role.
She has since made her Twitter exit known.
‘Twitter it’s been fun. My account will still be active for now but I will not be on here!’ she posted.
‘Thank you my gay army and all the rest. Love you.’
Many of her followers expressed their regret that she would no longer be utilising the site, even though she didn’t provide any further information behind her choice to leave.
‘Why does this feel like a break-up,’ one person commented.
‘We’ll miss you,’ someone else said.
Others, however, hypothesised that it may be because Twitter removed the blue tick mark from verified users this week.
Bella last tweeted in March when she published a vintage image in honour of International Transgender Day of Visibility.
‘Happy TDOV to this little dude!,’ she wrote.
‘I didn’t know the word non-binary in this picture. But I knew what it meant. Inherently.
‘Because I always was, and always will be. Lotsa love to all of my trans, enby and gender funky friends.’
A few weeks prior, Bella discussed how she was the focus of jokes for her appearance when video game enthusiasts singled her out.
Bella’s casting as Ellie first drew ire from some fans who felt that she didn’t appear similar enough to the famous figure.
Bella recalled everything, claiming that she even received requests to leave and that “everyone” was obsessed on her “square head.”
She admitted to GQ that she had formed the practise of doom-scrolling in search of a comment that was “more painful than the last one.”
The Last of Us is available to watch on Sky and NOW.
