Rebel Wilson claims she was not permitted to drop more than a specific amount of weight in order to continue portraying Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect.
Following the release of the smash-hit musical picture Pitch Perfect in 2012, the actress, who recently became a mother for the first time, became a household figure.
Rebel, who co-starred with Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks, played fan favourite Fat Amy, who gave herself the moniker so others wouldn’t do it behind her back.
Now, the 42-year-old Australian actress claims that it was in her contract during the hit film trilogy that she could not shed more than 10 pounds (4.5kg).
On the renowned podcast Call Her Daddy, the actor, who has just shed 77 pounds, stated that she needed to maintain her weight in order to continue playing the character.
‘I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because I was in the contracts for that movie,’ she said.
‘You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms), or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.’
The massively popular Pitch Perfect films ran over five years, with Rebel explaining she had to wait until the franchise was complete before thinking about ‘getting healthier.’
She did it, she claimed, partially to attempt to have a kid after a fertility expert informed her she would have a “far greater chance” if she reduced weight.
This hit her ‘hard’ as she revelled in her ‘wonderful larger life,’ even as she expressed dissatisfaction at continuously being referred to as ‘that chubby hilarious buddy’ rather than ‘the love interest.’
After losing a significant amount of weight in 2020, rebel and girlfriend Ramona Agruma had a baby girl, Royce, via surrogacy last year.
The actress joyfully announced in November that she had become a mother, lately dubbing her baby a “miracle” after revealing that the surrogate had previously miscarried.
‘I attempted to have the kid with one surrogate and regrettably the embryo lost, which is incredibly… you get so thrilled when it takes and it was really heartbreaking,’ she says. Rebel mentioned it on the podcast The Pick Up with Britt, Laura, and Mitch.
‘I was mourning at that at the time, but then to have a second embryo, it was amazing.’
Rebel said: ‘I really do think it’s a bit of a miracle it happened. I’d been through quite a bit on the fertility journey for a few years but I was like, “Wow.”
‘Now I look at it and I have a family, I have an instant family kind of thing and little Roycey is amazing, she is such a little angel.’
