The new Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One teaser is jam-packed with Tom Cruise’s amazing feats, one of which has already become an iconic moment in our imaginations.
Coming to theatres this July, this new picture will be the first of two parts, with 60-year-old Tom reprising his role of Ethan Hunt, which he has done six times before.
The first film in the franchise was released in 1996, and the eighth will be part two, which will be released in June of next year.
Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby from The Crown, Angela Bassett, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, and Ving Rhames co-star in the picture with the Top Gun actor.
And based on the action-packed trailer, this one appears to be rather thrilling.
Many serious Tom Cruise looks are made in it, although a couple very gorgeous sunsets provide as a little of serenity before the weapons come out and all hell breaks loose in a number of stunning places, from deserts to mountain tops.
So far, the one sequence that has already become famous is when stuntman Tom drives over a cliff on a very fast motorbike, which he promptly disposes of mid-air.
While the language is rather weak, there are some tense moments that add the drama with lines like, ‘We are the sum of our decisions, our lives are the sum of our choices, and we cannot escape the past.’
‘His fate is written, shall we write yours too?’ says another, before a defiant Ethan shouts: ‘If anything happens to them, there’s no place that I won’t go to kill you. That is written.’
There’s also a very James Bond moment where Ethan battles on the top of a train before a fast-approaching tunnel forces them to duck for their lives.
The clip concludes with the iconic Mission: Impossible theme song with Tom dangling from some horrible height. Classic.
The summary of this most recent, eh, impossible mission, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, will find Ethan and his crew attempting to track down a new weapon that “threatens all of humanity.”
The summary begins, “With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the world begins.”
‘Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.’
