It’s been more than 20 years since the first Chicken Run hit our screens, so Netflix has gone all out for the sequel, assembling an astounding all-star ensemble.
In Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget, Thandiwe Newton will play Ginger, the irrepressible escape artist who famously plotted the breakout in the first film.
Tangled’s Zachary Levi, who portrays Ginger’s now-husband Rocky, the former circus rooster who helped the flock flee Tweedy’s property, will join her.
Rocky and Ginger have become parents, and their daring little daughter Molly is played by none other than The Last Of Us’ Bella Ramsey.
‘Molly is a highly curious and very clever chicken with a great heart and a strong sense of justice,’ Bella teased their character’s characteristics.
‘She has inherited a rebellious wild side from her dad, and determination and all her social skills from her mum.’
Sharing what we can expect from Ginger, Thandwie added: ‘Ginger is finally living her dream, she’s content and all is right with the world.
‘The biggest change for Ginger is that she and Rocky are now parents, they’ve hatched a little girl called Molly who they adore.
‘Ginger is selfless and caring, and everything she does is for the good of her family and community. However, she soon realises that her desire for peace and harmony is under threat, what is she to do?
‘Ginger’s story unfolds and it’s exciting to see her character go on that journey.’
In addition, Absolutely Fabulous actor Jane Horrocks will reprise her role as the perpetually knitting hen Babs, with other original actresses Imelda Staunton, who portrays champion egg-layer Bunty, and comedian Lynn Ferguson, who plays Mac, also known as the brains.
David Bradley plays Royal Air Force rooster Fowler, while comedian Romesh Ranganathan and actor Daniel Mays play the comical rodents Nick and Fletcher.
Josie Sedgwick-Davies, who plays Molly’s buddy Frizzle in her first significant role, rounds out the group.
