Maya Jama has undeniably become a fashion star, and rumour has it that she’s been signed by a major cosmetics company.
It has been claimed that 28-year-old Maya has replaced 49-year-old supermodel Kate Moss as the face of Rimmel London, with the slogan “Get the London look” becoming a trademark of the company.
After replacing Laura Whitmore as the presenter of Love Island, Maya has been a huge hit with fans, and it’s assumed that Rimmel would like to cash in on her popularity.
A insider claims that by signing with the company, Maya has become the definitive “It Girl” of the moment.
An insider told The Sun: ‘Rimmel is one of the biggest brands in beauty with a very British core, so pinpointing Maya to be their figurehead shows she’s very much the It Girl of the moment.
‘They needed a big name to take over from Kate, who had already stepped back from the role.
‘Rimmel believes Maya ticks that box — plus they hope she can also appeal to a younger and more diverse audience.’
The source added that ‘a backlash is expected, given Maya is nearly half Kate’s age,’ but the company are ‘happy with their decision.’
‘It’s a dream come true for Maya.’
According to the tabloid, Maya just filmed her first commercial for Rimmel, succeeding Kate, who made her debut with the company in 2005.
As a former Radio 1 DJ with her own skincare line, Mij Masks, Maya is no stranger to the cosmetics business.
She has collaborated with fashion labels like PrettyLittleThing and Adidas, as well as cosmetics companies like Maybelline.
As the host of BBC Three’s Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, she has had the opportunity to learn from make-up and beauty gurus Val Garland and Dominic Skinner.
However, it has been discovered that Maya has resigned from her post as presenter after her huge success on Winter Love Island.
An insider said that Maya ‘loved her time hosting Glow Up for the last two series’, but she’s now decided ‘not to return for another run.’
‘It was a really difficult decision but she’s going to be really busy doing two series of Love Island this year, and couldn’t make it work,’ they said.
‘She’s also gone down such a storm on Love Island that demand for her has gone through the roof and her diary outside of filming the show is absolutely jam-packed.’
The insider said BBC were ‘gutted to lose her’, but Leomie Anderson has since been confirmed as her replacement.
Reps for Maya Jama have been contacted for comment.
