Max George and Maisie Smith have fueled engagement speculations with a very relatable ‘proposal’ – or bizarre, depending on who you ask.
The couple made their relationship public last summer, after meeting on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 and establishing on a two-year friendship before falling in love.
And it appears that The Wanted singer Max, 34, proposed to the EastEnders actor in an unusual way on a date night at Frankie & Benny’s.
Max documented the couple’s supper on TikTok, showing them enjoying the nostalgic Bring It Back noughties-inspired cuisine.
The video started with Maisie, 21, munching into a cheese bake, with Max narrating that she ‘clearly enjoyed’ the oozing dish, and he also joked that he’saved some on his chin for later’ as the cheese flowed down his face as he tried to take a piece.
Following that, the couple dug their teeth into a Benny’s plate that comprised a variety of delicacies, including onion rings, which Max appeared to make into an impromptu engagement ring.
After emphasising how much he liked the platter, Max popped the big question by placing one of the fried delicacies in his lover’s fingers. ‘I called in the heavy guns.’
The video continued to show the couple eating a Coke float, calzones, and chocolate-loaded sundaes to round off the ‘ideal date,’ with the duo going arm in arm and kissing as they exited the diner.
It’s not the first time Max appears to have proposed to his lover, as he did it in a very public setting – during his appearance on ITV game show The Chase.
After speaking with presenter Bradley Walsh, 63, about the couple’s love, he asked Max, “When’s the big day?!?” A question that many fans may have previously pondered.
‘Funny you mention it…’ Max smoothly replied, reaching into his pocket.
Maisie, being the fantastic actor that she is, played up to Max’s simulated proposal, getting up and fanning her face in apparent surprise.
However, when the audience applauded, she instantly sat back down, demonstrating to the audience that it was all a jest between the two.
In an Instagram prank gone awry, the two even led viewers to assume Maisie was pregnant, which has been criticised by fans.
